TG: This claim is unimpressive. The presumed leaked memo is dated the very day when Sanders declared his candidacy. Peculiar coincidence. Or are we supposed to think that the DNC issued this directive just before Sanders had declared? I smell if not a rat then a confusion. Anyway, early on, Sanders did get the usual negative coverage accorded to a candidate with very small poll support. That changed.
JB: What's your prediction going forward? Will the press bear down and get serious in their coverage? Will the GOP cobble together a plan to deny the nomination to Trump? What other election-related excitement awaits us?
TG: Much of the mainstream press is playing catch-up. Bob Woodward said publicly that the Washington Post has 20 reporters working on Trump. The big question is what TV will do, and about that, i have no prediction.
As for whether the GOP will deny the nomination to Trump, I'm almost certain they won't. To do so, they'd have to agree on a Plan B. Who would that be? They could no more easily settle on a replacement than they could settle on a nominee who wasn't Trump in the first place. As for excitements, it's a safe bet, but if I knew which they'd be, I'd already have placed my bets. Expect the unexpected.
JB: Thanks so much for talking with me, Todd. It's always a pleasure.
TG: Likewise!
