Though difficult to locate on the above map the 22' high concrete wall built by Israel surrounding the West Bank will also remain as a permanent structure.
The Golan Heights which Israel annexed last year-which of course was part of Syria prior to the 1967 war but taken as booty and occupied by Israel after the war-will remain part of Israel in the Trump proposal.
Reactions to Trump's "Deal of the Century" were swift among the Palestinian's bringing new protests in the West Bank and Gaza against the deal. PLO leader and President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas condemned it as did Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, as well as President Erdogan of Turkey.
Significantly, the "Deal" was unveiled with caretaker Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu standing next to Trump. The latter facing a trial in the Senate after being impeached by the House while Netanyahu is facing a trial in Israel for bribery, fraud and breach of trust during his time as Israeli PM.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres basically said any two state solution must respect international law. Thus a Palestinian state adjacent to Israel must be the geographical entity created in 1949-which of course wouldn't include any Israeli settlements built in the West Bank since 1967.
Numerous essays-too many to list here-have already been written condemning Trump's "Deal" with only Scott Ritter saying of the Palestinian's it's "an offer they can't refuse, and that's why it will likely work".
Also significantly, Palestinian's had no part in formulating the "Deal' so it's essentially an ultimatum for them to accept or reject.
Again looking at the conceptual map it reminds one of apartheid South Africa under white rule i.e. enclaves of indigenous peoples surrounded by white only resident provinces.
Any true two state solution must at the very least include the two parties. It can't be dictated-as this was done-with the stronger telling the weaker, take or leave it. That's simply an ultimatum.
So from here it's hard to imagine the Palestinian's ever accepting this "Deal".
Finally Trump's "Deal" creates a Palestinian rump state not an actual sovereign State of Palestine. One should never say never but this "Deal of the Century" seems dead on arrival.
And it appears the Palestinian's accepting the "Deal" would be tantamount to accepting Israel's boot on their neck forever.
"Trump's 'Deal of the Century' is an offer they can't refuse', and that's why it will likely work', by Scott Ritter, "RT", January 28, 2020
