"No wonder the iPhone background image is of chrysanthemums" -- referring to a Chinese slang term for anus.
The above response by Russia, by some, may be
predictable, given the anti-gay climate, but it is still disturbing to the
extent of how much the Christian Right has been able to infiltrate.
We're waiting on responses from African countries and Eastern Europe - all the
places Scott Lively has visited.
The more they will stay the same for the CR's strategy abroad. With same-sex marriage gaining more ground in the U.S., the bigger the push for "traditional marriage" in Africa, Asia, and the Far East. And while they don't have to concentrate on Islamic nations, they fear that the Catholic nations of Central and South America might fall into the hands of the dreaded "Homosexual Agenda" now that Pope Francis is taking a softer stance.
The problem they now have with Tim Cook's announcement (especially saying that being gay is a "gift from God") is that Apple has become an integral part of America and the world. It's one thing to boycott Home Depot for supporting Gay Pride parades, but yet another to denigrate the CEO of the world's most innovative, respected company - one which has become an integral part of it's daily life.

Global Hate
So has Cook's announcement made a difference? In America, maybe, but in the strongholds of anti-gay sentiments abroad, gays will still have a hard time making the case that one of America's global corporations is "proud" of being gay. The transcendence of Apple products may endure, with consumers like China making snide comments while they make their purchases, but in countries where right-wing Christianity trumps "secular" progress, large corporations will still be nervous if any of their CEOs go over to "the dark side."
