Get the picture.
The reality seems to completely escape these commenter's that Israel is and has been the occupier of Gaza and the West Bank since the 1967 war with an Israeli blockade off the coast of Gaza severely restricting all shipping and all trade into Gaza with the outside world while all entry into Israel is either blocked off and prevented with checkpoints allowing only extreme health emergencies to pass through while the Rafah border crossing into Egypt remains closed thereby creating an open air prison in Gaza where civilians have no place to take shelter from the Israeli assault of bombs, drone strikes, offshore naval bombardment, planes, attack helicopters, tanks, artillery and the IDF Israeli Defense Force directly invading and its soldiers indiscriminately killing Palestinian's in their path including innocent women and children.
But all this doesn't seem to matter or register into the consciousness of the people commenting to the letter writer.
Now whether the Augusta commenter's represent a true picture of people's attitudes in this country can't be taken with any certainly but it seems some(many?),don't want to acknowledge anything that contradicts or goes against what they "believe" to be the truth.
To such people those spouting "lies"-as in the letter writer-are un-American haters of America.
Again it's hard to know whether such attitudes accurately reflect most Americans.
Yet those commenter's did bring to mind a poll taken in 2004, one year after our invasion and occupation of Iraq where 70% of the American people said they believed Saddam Hussein was allied with Osama bin Laden and connected with 9/11-even though by then there was no evidence connecting the two men who were also known to be bitter enemies-which obviously didn't register in the minds of the 70%.
There was another poll-though completely unrelated to what has been presented here but it too was astounding. In this poll a majority of the American people believed the Earth was 10,000 years old and man walked with the dinosaurs. There is presently a "Creation" museum located in Petersburg, Kentucky with mannequins representing people and dinosaurs habituating the Earth together. Check it out, it's right there in Petersburg, Kentucky.
Such ignorance on such a scale is mind boggling.
A close friend indicates, "They don't represent all Americans". Maybe not and polls taken are often skewed depending on the questioner and how a question is presented. Also if polls are not random representing an actual cross section of Americans in the country there may be such a bias to make the poll results completely unreliable and should be dismissed as invalid.
But"if these polls as well as the commenter's in Augusta somehow do reflect the majority views and attitudes of most Americans we are in serious trouble.
A seemingly ignorant public's lack of awareness and an inability to recognize the sinister nature of its government yet support and defend that government's actions and policies, not as sinister but in defense of the country-well they've drunk the propaganda "kool aid", wave the flag and yell,"USA,USA".
If so it'll take more than god to help us.
