The Radical Right-Wing Rapidly Descends Into Political Oblivion

Aren't they aware that ethnic and racial minorities will, by the year 2050, represent 54% of America's population with Hispanics comprising by far the largest segment? That the white population of this country which is now 66% will then total only 46%? Then again they may be aware of that fact but feel confident that they still will be able to overpower and dominate Hispanics as well as every other ethnic and racial segment of America; unfortunately, this is the height of delusional thinking, coupled with just plain arrogance.

They have lost the war on the women of America, a battle that they should never have dared to begin. They should have known that the women of America would never allow themselves to be dominated and controlled by politicians. Based on their shallow thinking they paid a terrible price in the just concluded elections when these women not only were a major contributing factor in their defeat but also gained power in the U.S. Congress. Three Republican Congressional candidates, Todd Akin, Richard Mourdock and Joe Walsh, self-appointed medical experts on the issues of rape and abortion, felt the wrath of women voters and went down in flames.

What does the future hold for the crippled Republican Party? Could those predictions of this party erupting into a civil war between opposing factions become a reality? If that happens, it could conceivably tear the GOP apart; and then what? Could we see the creation of two weak Republican parties; one inhabited by old style Republican conservatives of the past who could, at least, operate in a rational, reasonable manner and the other dominated by the Right Wing Radicals and the Tea Party who still mistakenly believe that the American people can be bullied and dominated?

This civil war may already have started. Gov. Chris Christy of New Jersey is in danger of becoming a pariah in his own party for working too closely with President Obama during the recent efforts to recover from the super storm Sandy. And recently, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindahl took a shot at his own party when he said, "We've also had enough of this dumbed-down conservatism. We need to stop being simplistic, we need to trust the intelligence of the American people and we need to stop insulting the intelligence of the voters." He further said that, Republicans should "stop being the stupid party" by working to embrace a larger group of constituents rather than becoming the party of "big anything."

If such an internal war for control of the GOP actually takes place, can we imagine how the Radical Right news organizations and their one dimensional hosts would react? Might Rush Limbaugh throw down the gauntlet against Fox News and their lineup of pseudo-journalists? Could Ann Coulter and Great Van Susteren go head to head? Might we even see Bill O'Reilly challenge the opinions and positions of Sean Hannity? Which of the various factions would Ralph Reed or Grover Norquist support? And the biggest, most critical decision; whose side would the self-proclaimed political genius, Karl Rove, take?

In recent times, millions of Americans have awakened to this distinct danger and there are signs that they are beginning to fight back. Their recent rejection of Romney and the Republicans is evidence of this awareness and objection to their twisted ideology and agenda. They were not fooled by the smoke and mirror tactics that Romney and Ryan tried to use. The majority completely rejected the message of covert and overt hatred emanating from the Radical Right.

What we have here is a perfect opportunity for the emergence of a new third party movement. The American people have been desperately hoping that for a new party and candidates that would bring honesty and integrity, together with creative and innovative ideas, to this political system. This would be a great opportunity to give the voters a completely new alternative to the current two parties that continue to be mired down in a massive gridlock.

It took many decades for this political system to become so thoroughly corrupted and dysfunctional and it will, no doubt, take many years to overhaul it. The first step is to methodically eliminate the members of the Right Wing Radicals from this Congress. The next constructive step would be to also rid this Congress of the Blue Dog Democrats, generally thought of as closet Republicans, and replace them with dedicated and clear thinking representatives of the people.

There is no magic formula that we can develop to repair the extensive damage that has been done to this country and our democracy. Only relentless pressure by an ever growing number of the America people, motivated by emerging progressive leaders, will eventually result in the removal of the poisonous elements from this political system.
