"I want to confess that I came to the holy mountain under false pretenses."
"Were you not in constant prayer from the day you arrived on Mount Athos?"
"Were you doing this work to benefit yourself, or to benefit the cosmos?"
"I fear I may have invited the devil to our shores."
"My son, we have been invaded by Ottoman Turks, Arab Pirates, Franks, and Nazis, and we survived in peace, health, and prosperity. What makes you think we are under any danger today?"
"There is more, Father. Something we did not expect."
"More?" asked the abbot. His eyes opened wide.
"It was not our original intention, but we may have neutralized some modern weapons."
"Are you telling me that you turned the swords of nations into plowshares!?"
"The vaccine we created may have a life of its own. It gathers information, protects itself, and mutates to survive. So far the bots are behaving in a cooperative and harmonious way."
"Is it a positive and healing vaccine?"
"Yes, Father. It is only neutralizing or tearing apart malicious code."
"That is the way of our Lord. How did you--with God's help--accomplish this calling?"
"First of all, when we embarked on this project six years ago we began in prayer and meditation. When I arrived in the year two thousand-six Abbot Simeon placed me in the computer-services section. To my surprise I found that nine monks were software and computer engineers and the tenth was a network engineer. Soon after, Vladimir joined us from California USA where he worked in Silicon Valley as a programmer. Our team of twelve was completed. We divided up the project. Each monk was assigned to assemble one of seven of the computer-code scripts called bots--short for robot--that we would eventually release into the Internet. I was the manager and Stanislaw was my secretary. Three monks performed testing and evaluation."
"How did you install these bots into the Internet?"
