The President held a Cabinet meeting in the Cabinet Room of the White House. Source

The President met with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus in the State Dining Room of the White House on the importance of fixing the broken immigration system of the United States. Readout

The President telephoned   Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada to congratulate Harper on his victory in the May 2, 2011 Canadian national elections. The President renewed his commitment to the Beyond the Border Declaration he and   Harper had announced February 4, 2011 and to the work of the U.S.-Canada Regulatory Cooperation Council. Source

The President proclaimed May 2011 as the 50th Anniversary of the Freedom Rides. Source

The President and Vice President Joe Biden met with United States Secretary of Defense Robert Gates in the Oval Office of the White House. Source

Vice President Joe Biden met with President Ivo Josipovic of Croatia to commended President Josipovic for Croatia's progress on domestic reforms, especially in strengthening the rule of law and fighting corruption, and expressed strong support for Croatia's aspiration to conclude its European Union accession negotiations in the near future. The Vice President also expressed U.S. appreciation for Croatia's important work as a North Artlantic Treaty Organization ( NATO) ally, including its contributions to the International Security Assistance Force, where its military and police were helping to train Afghan forces, and for playing a leading role at the Afghan Military Police Academy in Kabul. Both also discussed the political situation in southeast Europe. Source

The United States Veterans Administration (VA) posted the interim final rule to roll out enhanced services, including a monetary stipend, health insurance, expanded training and other support services to Family Caregivers of Veterans who sustained a serious injury in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001. The new program offered those Veterans the ability to remain in a comforting home environment surrounded by loved ones and supported by a dedicated Family Caregiver. The regulation was posted on the   Caregiver website and the application process for the new program for post-9/11 Veterans injured in the line of duty also described in a fact sheet . The VA began supplying and accepting applications on May 9, 2011 at www.caregiver.va.gov   or a call could be made to the Caregiver Support Line at 1-855-260-3274.

The President met with Britain's Prince Charles in the Oval Office of the White House, thanking the prince for the important contributions that British forces were making in Afghanistan and Libya. The President welcomed Prince Charles's work over three decades on environmental issues, halting deforestation and encouraging sustainable food production, and he congratulated the prince on the wedding of his son, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge , to Catherine Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge . The President telephoned President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria to congratulate Jonathan on his election victory and to commend the people of Nigeria for their resolve and patience during the April 2011 presidential, legislative and gubernatorial elections. Source
