I know this man is liberal to the core. I know this is true because this man is me.

This man has also worked as a college administrator. He, like Tim Chandler, has helped to create new departments, forged cross-disciplinary relationships and programs, and hired people whose fundamental approach to scholarship differed considerably from his own. He did this in the interest of academic freedom and fairness, but also because he believes that no one approach to knowing has the key to explaining everything. It takes a diverse scholarly village to build knowledge, and with it, to empower students to think for themselves.
I guess I know where this man who is me, who is a liberal, won't be welcome as an administrator. The reason won't be because I don't have the requisite knowledge, experience, or skills to do the job. It will be because of this man inside of me.
This man who is proud to be a liberal.
