The Spanish language already uses the term "Unitedstatesian" to refer to us rather than "American." In my fantasy scenario, we would evolve soon from the Disunited States to North and South United States, since the terms "North America" and "South America" are already spoken for.
But, face it, back to history, a deal might have been struck somewhere after the Disunited States state became too monstrous a thought and a more monstrous a reality. Was monstrosity just in our cards?
Once we descend to less of a world power--I'm just now reading a book that suggests a possible scenario for that--what will happen? A Chinese big brother, as David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas suggests?
I don't know. Just a hugely radical suggestion to counter the hugely radical idiots that are planning to disunite us anyway, whatever it takes. The poor they don't want to have around them forever, to paraphrase Jesus again.
But they will. Big brother might come here first, before he becomes Chinese. Then to the inevitable fratricide.
Choose our fate: gamble or lose.
