Sagittarius is the third fire sign of the Zodiac, following the intense flames of Aries and the contained fire of Leo.   With Sagittarius, we use our fire to inspire us to widen the gates of our perception, to open to new views and philosophies and to enjoy the freedom that comes from moving forward in life.

Sags love to play and move; they're always on the go.   While they are truth-seekers and truth-speakers, they don't like to sit around and read about Truth -" they want to go out and experience it.   Or at least tell you about their truth.     So let these new impressions and truths move through you as you go out into the world through this magical season.   Play and explore and discover new truths about yourself and the world.

Those new truths will probably be based on ancient wisdom, since Truth is ever one and yet also ever new.   The Sabian symbol for the Sun and Moon at 14* Sagittarius is: The Great Pyramid and the Sphinx.

The Great Pyramid of Egypt is still a wonder of the world, as is the Sphinx.   They remind us of past cultural achievements, as well as a mystery we still have to solve.    The shape of Egyptian pyramids is thought to represent the primordial mound, or sacred mountain, from which the Egyptians believed the Earth was created. The pyramid's shape symbolizes the descending rays of the sun, and most pyramids were faced with polished, highly reflective white limestone, in order to give them a brilliant appearance. Pyramids were named in ways that referred to solar luminescence, tying them to solar myths and myths of resurrection into the heavens.   New Age scholars see them as Initiation chambers.   Whatever their original purpose, they symbolize bringing heaven to earth, uniting triangle and square.

Yet grand in its loneliness, veiled in the mystery of unnamed ages,   the relic of Egyptian antiquity stands solemn and silent in the presence of the awful desert -" symbol of eternity.

The Sphinx is duel natured like the Centaur who rules Sagittarius; she is both lion and woman.   With its association with the astrological age of Leo and with Sun, the Sphinx is also associated with the Egyptian lion-headed goddess, Sekhmet.   Since ancient times, the Sphinx was a mystery even greater than the pyramids and came to represent the riddle of Life.

So we are given two symbols to ponder as we begin the new lunar month.   They are both images of ancient wisdom, based on an ancient tradition that understood the archetypal principles that have shaped our world.     It is archetypal knowledge that is the foundation of our human knowledge, and because the archetypes are still present both within and without, we can access their wisdom and build our life on their powerful foundations.

Jupiter, Uranus, Mars and the asteroids Pallas and Juno form a T-square:

Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces open us to revelation and sudden intuitive leaps in consciousness.    Squaring them, Mars and Pallas in Sagittarius challenge us to integrate those intuitive leaps into our over-all philosophy so that we make wise choices.   Opposing Jupiter is Juno in Virgo, the Virgin Wife who demands to be honored by her unfaithful husband.   Relationships need to be honored by speaking the Truth now.

Uranus turns to direction motion after the new Moon on December 5th:

Uranus has been retrograde since July 5 at 1* Aries, whose symbol indicates the awakening of new potentials within each of us as well as in collective consciousness.   Since July this new energy as gone within each of us so we could individually work on what new potential wants to manifest through each of us.   Now we get to work on it again in the outer world.   It's time to free ourselves from the past and move forward.   Uranus will re-enter Aries on March 13th, and will stay in Aries for seven years, igniting our initiative and courage.

Mercury conjoins Pluto in Capricorn:

Mercury will join Pluto hours after this new Moon, taking our thinking to a new level.   Old negative thinking can now give way to more practical ways of dealing with work and society.   Happening so close to the new Moon, these two energies can help us find practical ways to bring our new insights and hope into the cultural arena.
