The Sabian symbol for the Sun and Moon at 13* Cancer is: A hand with a prominent thumb is held out for study. In the art of palmistry, the thumb signifies the Will. Our Will shapes our character--are we rigid and unbending or pliable and flexible? Can we focus our Will on what we want and desire? Think about how you use your Will. Or how you don't.

Our individuality is expressed through our character, all those qualities that define a person. But we need a strong will to accomplish what our character desires in life.

At the Cancer New Moon, this symbol calls us to show our character and strength of will if we want to nurture our lives and the life of the world.

The New Moon in Cancer is a time to sink back into the womb of life--to float on quiet waters under a full Moon and dream your world into being. This is the world of feelings and imagination, for these are two very important aspects of nurturing. Our soul needs these stories, just as we need to dream each night. What do you feel will nurture you? And because we are all one, what do you feel will nurture the world? It's probably the same thing. Dream up your piece of the collective puzzle to live out.

At New Moon, the Sun (consciousness) and the Moon (the Unconscious) are joined as one. The Sacred Marriage occurs in the dark of the Moon, when something new is conceived. This New Moon is intense. Our consciousness and the Collective Unconscious and our personal unconscious are being stirred up by the energies of the Pluto/Uranus square of 2012-2015. This Cancer New Moon creates a T-square with these energies, putting pressure on us to find our way to a new identity and purpose while still honoring others.

Pluto (insight and evolution) opposes this Cancer New Moon, which means it confronts us with its brutal truths about the world. Pluto in Capricorn is energizing a transformation of our civilization. It's drawing out the poisons of our culture so we can all see them. Our shadow is showing. We let our fears, our self-interest and the beliefs that shape a frivolous way of life get in the way of evolution. We waste water--our most precious resource. We over-consume and throw our resources away as if they are unlimited. We accept poisoned air, food and water.

Our world has to change. We can't live by the rules of the past 500 years of the Industrial Revolution. Our technological revolution has changed the world again, and our consciousness has evolved to such a state that the old ways can't contain them. The World Soul is evolving. And we're having a hard time keeping up. But at least more of us have woken up to the problems.

So Pluto wants to help seed this Cancer Mother New Moon with the promise and potential of evolution. We can create a different society if we put our Will (those thumbs) into it. We still have about 7 years until the USA has its first Pluto return, which is an evolutionary moment for the world. Will we grow up to our responsibility as a country to be that shining example of freedom and possibilities our myths speak of? Or is it all a lie? We have to finish out the old cycle between now and then, so we will run into bumps--and more--along the way. It's part of the process of dying. It's how we face Death that will make all the difference.

The Sabian symbol for Pluto at 17* Capricorn is: A repressed woman finds a psychological release in nudism. For too long we've repressed the real feelings of our bodies, which are be telling us that our society isn't making us happy nor healthy. Pluto is also exposing the hypocrisy and nastiness within our culture which represses us.

This Cancer New Moon (union of conscious and unconscious) also squares Uranus in Aries. A square is a challenge. And Uranus in Aries wants us to wake up and BE someone, rather than 'have a job'. It's a time to connect to our archetypal guides. It's time to nurture those aspects of ourselves which will serve the common good.

The Sabian symbol for Uranus at 25* Aries is: The possibility for mankind to gain experience at two levels of being. If we are open to spirit, we do operate on at least two levels--both the inner and the outer/ right and left brain/ feminine and masculine consciousness. Living on these two planes opens us to new insights and wisdom. It's a good time to go within and talk with our spirit guides. We are preparing ourselves for our purpose.

So with the Cancer New Moon aligned with the ongoing square between Uranus in Aries (revolution and awakening) and Pluto in Capricorn (cultural death and rebirth), we can hope to birth a new level of consciousness and participation in the world that will have an impact on our community and the world. We are the grandparents of the Future!
