The Sabian symbol for this New Moon at 22* Aquarius is: A rug is placed on the floor of a nursery to allow children to play in comfort and warmth. This is a beautiful symbol for the protection and security we will find on our path to greater consciousness and community. We can see it happening all over the world. People are coming together to fight injustice, to creatively respond to our collective issues, to help each other move forward with our individual plans and to volunteer our services where they are needed. When we step forward with the confidence bestowed by our sure knowledge that we will be sustained and protected, anything is possible. Let your light shine out and it will attract others who are also full of light. Together we can set the world ablaze with love, truth and wisdom!
The two rulers of Aquarius are Saturn and Uranus. Saturn is the traditional ruler of Aquarius and now is traveling in Scorpio, honing our ability to look at the hurt, wounded places inside us so we can heal them and let them go. Saturn in Scorpio turns our attention to the problems of intimacy. Can we trust ourselves enough to open up to others in truth and love? Or do we still live in fear of betrayal? Saturn squares Venus in Aquarius, challenging us to let go of old prejudices and old wounds, so we can be open about who we are and what we want. This especially applies to women and our freedom. Saturn makes a trine to Mercury, Mars, Chiron and Neptune in Pisces, opening our imaginations to help us find solutions to our problems, and affording us the comfort of knowing that we are all in this cosmic soup together.
Saturn makes its yearly retrograde on February 18, moving backwards until July 7th. When a planet turns retrograde, it is time to look within to our own use of this energy and find the stuck places within ourselves, rather than blaming it all on the outer person or situation. This Saturn in Scorpio retrograde can help heal our relationship issues, either drawing us closer to our partners or helping us break away from unhealthy relationship patterns. The Sabian symbol for Saturn's retrograde at 12* Scorpio is: An official embassy ball. This symbol urges us to "meet' people at the highest levels of human interchange, standing up for our ideals when we encounter others. Respect, courtesy and fair play are the order of the day!
Uranus is the new ruler of Aquarius, supporting our revolutionary ideals about freedom, equality and peace on Earth. Uranus in Aries is opening us to our archetypal identity, awakening us to our destiny. It is still dancing (and will continue to dance until 2015) with Pluto in Capricorn, stepping up with new ideas as the old patriarchal paradigm dies. This is the energy of evolution and revolution at work now in our world. And just look at how far we've come since letting our American government shut us down after 9/11. People all over the world are working hard to save our environment and make this world a safer and more peaceful place to live. We haven't accomplished it yet, but the heavens are with us on this one. We Will OverCome!
Neptune, Mars, Mercury and Chiron in Pisces are energizing the collective unconscious--all those needs that have been rejected by our capitalist, patriarchal society. We are here on Earth to be spiritual warriors (Jedi knights, magicians, sorceresses, Wise Women). These energies challenge Jupiter in Gemini to think differently, especially about all the useless information that we waste our time on. Instead of surfing the Net, it's time to think deep thoughts about our collective future. We can change the world, if only we think differently about our situation. What has been missing is a feminine perspective to balance our masculine way of dealing with the world. My book, Wisdom's Daughters, seeks to help women -- and men -- reclaim our birthright of feminine Wisdom, which patriarchy repressed. When women stand in our feminine truth, we will help men change the world!
This Aquarius New Moon also squares the Moon's nodes in Scorpio/Taurus. The Nodes point us in the direction of our collective evolution. The Scorpio North Node points us toward choosing constructive change over staying stuck in the status quo of comfort and inertia (Taurus South Node). It urges us to release those people, feelings and things which no longer serve our lives instead of holding onto the old ways of doing things. This New Moon challenges us to rediscover what we really value and share it with those people who are important to us. It's time for the community of individuals to band together, like Arthur's knights and ladies of the Round Table.
It's much more fun to stand together to face our problems. There is more energy generated when we combine our energies. And we'll feel more empowered by working for the common good rather than just for ourselves. Aquarius rocks!
So have a wonderful Chinese New Year's weekend, meditate on what seeds you want to plant this New Moon, and hang out with your family, your group, and your community!
