Libra Full Moon by Cathy Pagano
This full Moon in Libra on April 17-18 at 28*Libra/Aries is the 3rd SuperMoon we've had in a row -- the Moon is now closest to Earth and lined up with the Sun and Earth. These SuperMoons generate stronger ocean tides as well as stronger emotional responses. Our task is to go with the flow at the same time as we transform this emotional energy into conscious choices.
This Full Moon, with the Sun in Aries and the Moon in Libra, sets the tone for how we will create our life this year. Just as the Spring Equinox begins the new astrological year, and the Aries new Moon initiates the new growth for the year, so the Libra full Moon shows us how we intend to relate to others in our quest for personal growth and identity.
With an abundance of planets in Aries (Uranus, Mars, Mercury retrograde, Jupiter and the Sun), all of our impatience "to get going and do something' comes up against both Saturn and the Moon in Libra, asking that we strike a balance between Self and Other. It can no longer just be "all about me' because we know that we are all connected energetically; how we relate to other people in our lives is an indication of how conscious we are of our own identity and purpose within the whole.
About 12 hours after this full Moon, Mars opposes Saturn. We can find immature ways to fight the system (see Mars' Sabian symbol below) or we can find mature ways to use Mars' assertion and willpower to create cooperation and restraint.
Each year at this Aries/Libra full Moon we can see how far we've evolved in our own sense of Self by how we have grown in our relationship to Others. Hopefully as we circle around the years of our lives, we can see a spiraling pattern in our Search for Identity (the Aries mission) taking us deeper into ourselves and raising our consciousness higher and higher so that we understand the wisdom: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. And Love thy neighbor as Thyself. (And let's define neighbor as all of the Earth.) In these days of challenge and change, how we treat others will be the direct result of how deeply we know and love ourselves.
Libra Full Moon Chart by Cathy Pagano/Kepler
As the Aries mission to discover our mythic identities (Uranus in Aries) continues to unfold, our sense of Self (Sun), our courage to achieve (Mars), our willingness to be open to the new and listen (Mercury retrograde) and our belief in ourselves and our purpose (Jupiter), can bring a new sense of social justice and equality (Saturn) to our emotional standpoint (Moon). We don't need to be needy; we don't need to fight for survival; we don't need to worry that we aren't seen and appreciated; we don't need to let old standards of behavior and belief limit our awareness in changing times. What we need to understand is that we're all in this together; that we each have an answer to the puzzle of life and we can learn from the Other what we haven't realized about ourselves yet.
The challenge this full Moon chart offers us is to achieve balance within our emotional bodies while we charge forward with new plans, new focus, new beliefs and new identities into the future. Balancing our emotional body means that we actually "feel' our emotions and get the messages they are offering us. If someone says something that hurts your feelings, instead of getting angry (a very Mars in Aries kind of response) you have the choice to look at why your feelings are hurt and let that person know what they have done to you. This offers both of you a chance to grow.
