The problem here is how conveniently Evangelicals anthropromorphize God, taking the "in his image" meme and ascribing human traits to God. "Choosing", "Cursing," being "vengeful", bring God down from His supremacy. Having God interact with man reduces Him to a child and His toys.
That He "chose" Trump in any way could certainly be looked upon as a grave insult to a supreme Creator: if God "cares" for his creation, He wouldn't choose a lying, willfully ignorant, narcissistic and corrupt man to lead a "shithole" country much less America.
Frustration and Desperation
The Christian Right has continually tied itself into knots explaining away Trump's demeanor and behavior: the frustration shows in its desperate attempts to put Trump on a pedestal, contradicting itself in the process.
Paul White, propserity gospel preacher and Trump's "spiritual adviser", has said that ALL our leaders are chosen by God:
Paula White, the pastor of New Destiny Christian Center, a Florida megachurch, recently said in a televised interview that Trump had been "raised up" by God and suggested that those who opposed his agenda were "fighting against the hand of God."
At a conference of religion journalists Saturday, White said that she regretted some of what she had said. But the pastor also reaffirmed her belief that those in authority have been elected by God and said this applied not only to Trump but to his predecessor and presidential opponent as well.
Conversely, does that mean that Republicans (and Evangelicals) who opposed Obama every step of the way in his Presidency were "fighting against the hand of God"? Who's side is she on?
