Following the initial incident, criminal complaint (257930/2017) was filed with the Israel Police, Jerusalem, on June 13, 2017 (Figure). However, the investigation was closed the next day, June 14, 2017 - "Reason: Lack of criminality" (Figure) .
It remains inexplicable how Odell found her way to the Tekoa settlement. Odell was confined by the Israeli authorities in an institution, 200 km north of Tekoa . However, by now it is obvious that among the settlers in Tekoa there are a few, who have tight relations hips with the Ambash family on the one hand, and ultra-Orthodox Interior Minister Aryeh Deri on the other. Deri was convicted on corruption in his previous term as Interior Minister, served a prison term, and is now again serving as Interior Minister, again under corruption investigations. [ii]
The case appears to be unprecedented -- murder of a Jewish girl, where media fail and refuse to report (notices were sent and received by media) and police refuse to investigate. Obviously, under the law and justice system in Palestine, violent crimes against Palestinians often go unreported by media and un-investigated by the authorities. [iii] However, here the victim is Jewish.
It is obvious that the investigation should start in Tekoa, if for no other reason -- for the fact that the tight security there -- fences, manned gate, security cameras, and other surveillance systems, permanent IDF presence -- make it easy to figure out when, how, and with whom she arrived in Tekoa.
It is also obvious that had there been any suspicion that the perpetrators were Palestinians, full, sensational media coverage would have been produced , Palestinians in a large or very large surrounding area would have been placed under curfew with house to house searches.
The case resembles in some aspects the 2006 Tair Rada (13.5 yo) murder, where false Israel Police investigation, false indictment, and false conviction led to the false imprisonment of Roman Zadorov . [iv]
The Israel Police, suffering in recent years "collapse" and a series of corruption and sex scandals among its top commanders, [v] is supposed to investigate a cesspool of government corruption scandals, involving Benjamin Netanyahu and his cronies. At the same time, Israel is experiencing a "crisis" in public trust in the law and justice agencies on the one hand, and in mainstream media on the other.
The background of the Odell Ambash case is even more complex. Her parents were part of a polygamous family, led by Daniel Ambash, who had considerable following in popular Israeli Hasidic culture. [vi] Polygamy is not prohibited by Jewish Halakha proper. In practice it is prohibited, but only under the power of the 11 th century Rabbi Gershom "boycott". [vii]
Odell's father was eventually indicted and convicted on various offenses, including abuse of family members. However, many believe that the case was perverted by the justice system as well. Odell Ambash was in custody of state authorities in the aftermath of her father's trial , but wished to live with her mother, and repeatedly escaped from the institution, where she was confined.
Therefore, the case of the Ambash family and Odell Ambash murder in particular is also inseparable from the circumstances in the family courts and child welfare system, as well as ongoing efforts to crush protest against corruption of the family courts and child welfare system. [viii]
In short, Odell Ambash murder is a kaleidoscope view of the state of the State of Israel...
