Under interrogation, Kambakhsh sold out the civilian cell easily. This tactic prevented him from being tortured and he was able to keep the army cell untouched. The civilian group which was known as the 53 people were put together and led by Dr. Taghi Arani, who was in contact with Kambakhsh. Dr. Arani was an ardent communist who was very respected by his followers. Once the members of the group were interrogated and taken to court, Dr. Arani was killed, but the group of 53 stayed together in Jail, they were mostly well-educated students who had been exposed to the ideas of Dr. Arani.

Dr Taghi Arani was in contact with Kambakhsh. He was one the most respected founders of the party. He was killed in Reza Shah's prison.

The military branch stayed untouched and unknown and gathered momentum. It became so powerful that, by the time they had been compromised in 1953, they had six hundred officers in the army and an unknown number of police, army sergeants and gendarmes.

The allied invasion of 1943 brought freedom, chaos and an opportune time for mischief. This period lasted only 12 years and was probably the only time that the people of Iran tasted some freedom during the twentieth century. There were many drawbacks too; there was some lawlessness and division of the country by superpowers. Allied countries were moving significant intelligence forces into the country for a final showdown. In this article, we are going to discuss the issue of the pro-Soviet Tudeh party and those attempts to prevent Stalin from Turning Iran to Iranestan.

Anti Soviet efforts in Iran from 1943- 1953

During this period, the British brought in their own old ally Mr. Seyyed Zia who was in exile in England to put organizations together which would stand up against the Tudeh party.

At that time, the Iranian army had been dismantled and the army's counter-espionage intelligence was not working. This event corresponded with significant increase in the membership of the newly founded Iranian pro-Soviet communist party known as the Tudeh Party, or the "party of masses." There was also independent KGB infiltration of all organs of the government. Ironically, when Stalin, Churchill and FDR met in 1943 in Tehran to organize their efforts against Hitler, they were simply cheating each other from the first moment. They knew that the war was going to be over and each one wanted to steal as much as they could from Middle Eastern countries.

American Posture

FDR was not that interested in the feuds between the Soviets and the British. He mainly wanted to keep the alliance together, defeat Hitler and get out with least number of casualties. The US was able to live alone in Isolation.
