On January 23, Mars will go retrograde and will remain so until April 13. Mars (active energy, assertiveness, will, sexuality) is in Virgo (purity, perfection, independence). This placement offers us an opportunity to review our recent efforts at self-improvement and to set new goals to better our health, jobs, and daily routines. If we do this work well, we'll be ready to take action and move forward in mid-April.
On February 7, Saturn goes retrograde and will remain so until June 25. Saturn (responsibility, reality, boundaries) has been in Libra (relationships, fairness, justice, balance) since late 2009, except for a few months in Virgo in the first half of 2010. This retrograde period gives us a final opportunity to review our relationships and our personal boundaries before Saturn leaves Libra in October.
Venus left airy Aquarius and entered watery Pisces on January 14 and remains there until February 8; at the moment, it is the only major planet occupying a water sign, which gives us something of an emotional gap.
On February 3, Neptune will join Venus in Pisces, bringing greater opportunities for emotional awareness, expression, and balance. It remains there until 2025. Neptune rules Pisces, so this placement brings extra strength to both and to areas associated with them (the psychic realm, spirituality and mysticism, dreams and consciousness, film and other arts, glamour and illusion).

Waters of wisdom

During this Aquarius time, we feel strong impulses to define what utopia--a place of ideal perfection--means to us and imagine ways to manifest our vision. Each astrological sign is associated with a phrase, and for Aquarius that phrase is "I know."

This energy can be expressed negatively if we assume we know best and try to impose our vision of utopia on others or if we rely only on information gained from outer sources or authorities rather than trusting our inner knowing. At its best, though, "I know" represents an inner, spiritual knowing or "gnosis" gained from inspiration or intuition and verified via reflection, meditation, and personal experience:

Imagine yourself as a desert, where harsh conditions have dried up your hopes and dashed your dreams. You feel almost dead. Then a soft rain begins to fall, and you sense a quickening within as it revives your hopes and renews your dreams of a better world. This life giving water has come to you from an outward source that inspires you. It may have been a few lines of poetry, a mysterious hymn tune, a luminous painting, or an ancient prayer; wherever it came from, it touched your soul and helped turn your inner desert into a verdant landscape. One day, as you return to the things that inspire you, you find they no longer touch you in the same way. Instead, you feel drawn within yourself to explore your inner spiritual world, where you find an ancient spring. In a flash, you realize the spring had been there all along. Like an eternal fountain, it flows freely and abundantly always, renewing you with its waters of wisdom whenever you need its refreshing inspiration.

Now is the time to tap your inner wisdom. You have the ability to find your inner waters and the obligation to drink deeply and share what you know to help others. If you will take up this task, you will come to know why Aquarius's ruler, Uranus, the mythical god who rules the vast sky, is known as the "Great Awakener."
