I try not to dwell on it either, but when you blog on religion and politics, it's difficult not to see the difficulties that lie ahead and be afraid of the people who willfully hurt you in the name of "love." In the name of "God." In the name of "Morality." In the name of "fiscal responsibility."
And some people will tear at the very heart of true compassion: unequivocal acceptance. "Acceptance" has become a rather pejorative word of late, but acceptance is what will be needed if we are to survive. Remember: in order to have "tolerance" of someone you have to disdain them first. It's a benign form of contempt. That is all.
I must admit, it's hard to be so cynical while so many people are joyous. So, let's poke fun at the people who think that because we are a compassionate and caring country we are doomed. Let's celebrate!
But not too long.
