Torture is illegal, not just because it is painful and inhumane but because it is so unreliable and arbitrary as to what "intelligence" gets revealed and who gets tortured, the innocent as well as the guilty.
After Hitler, the rest of the world has finally come to realize this, making it illegal and criminal. This country signed off on that. But Cheney and Bush, caught up in their own power, arrogant, chicken hawk bullies that they are, thought it should not have to apply to them and their administration or any other politician in whom they confided and with whom they colluded. That patriotism was more important than the law.
For this they must pay the price. All of them. The whole world is watching. We have no choice. We must do the right thing and have them executed or put away for life, hopefully BEFORE Cheney dies a free man, outside of prison.
Democrat and Republican politicians who knew in advance of these illegal policies but said nothing must be discovered. The fact that they are and have been hiding from the truth and are stonewalling investigation makes our job that much more difficult but that much more important and focused.
Their silence must be our motivation.
Start with your own representative. Demand that they come clean. Insist on meeting with them, individually or in a group. Find out which side they are on, the People's or Secret Government?
Do not be afraid of the sound of your own voice in confrontation. You might be surprised by the number of people who agree with you but are afraid to say something themselves. Your voice supports and encourages them to also speak out.
If representatives are complicit they must pay the price.
This may take a long time but the problem will never go away by itself. It will remain with us and our children and grow as a cancer. More accurately, it has been growing as a cancer.
Our worst enemies are those who tell us it is already too late, there will never be any prosecutions. They are on the other side. They have given up. They are lost themselves. Tell them to get a life or go to hell.
