We may have dropped the A bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki not just to scare the hell out of Stalin but to scare the hell out of future aliens. If we're willing to use the Bomb to needlessly kill our own kind, what would we be capable of to defeat aliens? (See the links below for the facts and logic behind the idea that the Bomb wasn't necessary to end WWII.)
Destruction of our economy
I thought our plutocrats created the asset bubbles in the S&L crisis, the great recessions I, and the coming great recessions II to thereby create for them extraordinary buying and selling opportunities. Our economy, however, is the engine that pays for everything. In the absence of a strong economy, everything suffers. Our world crumbles around us, making this world a less attractive target for alien conquest.
America's total nonfinancial debt to GDP is now over 250%. This debt will continue to be a drag on our economy, and this debt level is unsustainable. We cannot pay back this debt. There were over four million foreclosures after the great recessions I. Creditors who couldn't unload all their worthless mortgages ended up owning the real estate they financed, but they also suffered losses. Consider the creditors who ended up owning big chunks of Detroit. I submit our plutocrats, as our ultimate creditors, have suffered losses and will continue to suffer losses in order to selflessly destroy this world.
Destruction of our environment
Our plutocrats are even less concerned about a sustainable environment than they are about a sustainable economy. I thought our plutocrats cut corners on safety and environmental issues in order to maximize profits, but the primary goal may be to destroy the environment to make the planet less attractive...
The 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill spewed 4.9M barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. The well's 65% owner and operator British Petroleum paid over $40 billion in fines, cleanup costs, and settlements. The plutocrats among the owners of British Petroleum have made extraordinary sacrifices.
One would think such large costs would motivate energy companies to take reasonable safety steps at least on their most dangerous wells. Five years later, however, the Aliso Canyon gas leak spewed 107M tons of methane. Owner/operator Sempra Energy currently estimates costs of the leak will be $665M. The sacrifices continue.
Fracking - Frack is the new F word. Even if technology made fracking safe (no fracking way), our corruption makes it unsafe. If our energy companies won't take the necessary safety steps on their most dangerous wells, they won't take such steps on their normal risk wells. We have already significantly depleted the world's aquifers, now we are polluting them. Apparently, it's all part of The Plan.
