As an academic exercise, discussing libertarianism is useful. The problem with discussing a radical departure from socialism after twenty-five-plus years of creeping fascism and the consequential economic collapse into slave-slaveholder-feudalism is that we are tired, if not terrified, by ideologues and their passionate clinging to their failed ideologies.
We want to start with something that will work for the great majority of us, first. Once everyone's lower-level needs are met, then we can start to reconcile our past mistakes with present day solutions and resolutions. Libertarian thought may have something to contribute to the discussion at this much sought-after point in time.
Alas, as we are poised on the brink of complete, global socio-economic collapse, the last thing anyone wants to hear is that it's their responsibility to pull themselves up by their bootstraps -- that which does not kill you will make you stronger. In the face of the immense human suffering going on in the world right now, the libertarian message is politically and ideologically tone deaf. If you want a formula for increased violent crime, drug abuse and illiteracy, turn libertarianism loose on a place like Mexico City. G'head. Prove your ideas there because that is where we are ALL headed.
Grab your ankles, boys 'n' girls, it's BOHICA time!
