It's just typical US duplicity.
In fact without US government support of Israel that country would probably go the way of the former apartheid regime in South Africa that eventually collapsed as a pariah regime because of the unrelenting international pressure to end its governments apartheid policy.
So when one looks at the current slaughter of innocent people by the IDF in Gaza it continues unabated primarily because of US support.
The UN Security Council is stymied and can't act to stop the carnage primarily because the US is the stumbling block against any condemnation of Israel regardless what other members might propose.
Thus Israel acts with impunity. Which only encourages its blood thirsty Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who knows he can get away with whatever he does.
The Pope recently called for a two state solution and a separate Palestinian state.
To this long time observer Israel will never accept a separate Palestinian state adjacent to it despite all the rhetoric, all the proposals put forth over the years calling for a two state solution.
Looking at the current map of Israel including the West Bank and Gaza there currently exists some 15 Jewish settlements throughout the West Bank. These are permanent settlements that I believe Israel will never abandon or surrender to any solution put forth.
So again to this observer a two state solution won't ever happen. Of course one should never say never.
But in 75 years of Israel's existence this hasn't happened.
It will remain an impasse primarily because of US intransigence in support of Israel.
