Kansas City Power has reported a 4 percent decline in the use of electricity because of the large numbers of foreclosed homes. The U-6 unemployment number for August of 2010 was 16.4 percent and for this year has dropped to 16.2 percent. Over and over we hear the same line regurgitated, the big lie and the other day even the President used it when he promised that his new jobs program would keep the economy from sliding back into recession.

How can he tell such a lie with a straight face? Unemployment is at record levels, the number of workers no longer counted in the unemployment figures has risen beyond two and a half million. 2.8 million home foreclosures in 2009 and three million more in 2010, what gall to tell workers, the unemployed and the struggling about a recovery that doesn't exist. There are too many of us out here for the big lie to have its desired affect.

This is why I'm going to Washington D.C. to voice my rage and to vent my anger at this abandonment of a generation of Americans. I know in my heart that what is missing from this nation and it is not capability but opportunity. A nation which created televisions and computers, microwave ovens, cell phones and lunar modules now tells its children "its globalization, get over it." But I won't get over it and I won't accept it as a Fait accompli.

For all that I have lost, my home, my cars, all my tools and my career too, but I no longer lament the loss of these things because I have found something better than silver or gold. I have a purpose in my life, a cause, a direction and a guiding star to follow in the night sky. I am going to Washington D.C. for that America that gets it, for that America that wonders how they will pay the rent next month, that America with no health care, no job security or retirement plan.

I have abandoned the political legacies which have abandoned you and I. No longer am I a Democrat but instead I proudly proclaim myself as a Socialist. We are the owners of this land and we shall not be treated as tenants or vassals. The two party system offers only more of the same and there has to be another way, a third way to build an economy based upon people rather than upon profits alone.

There has to be a way to reclaim government for the betterment of the population, anything else is a tyranny. To create a government which educates the young and protects the old and the sick, anything else is a fraud. To create a government which is interested in the well being of its people, anything else should be torn down and buried as unworthy of a free people.

I go to Washington D.C. next week as one man but I also go as thousands.

I who am I? Born at the pinnacle of American prosperity to parents raised during the last great depression. I was the youngest child of the youngest children born almost between the generations and that in fact clouds and obscures who it is that (more...)
