Ron Johnson, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, commented:
"In addition to congressional dysfunction, I am concerned with a growing leadership void within the department tasked with addressing some of the most significant problems facing the nation."
These most recent turnovers have caused some to inquire who is running--and who is going to run--Homeland Security.
Trump says he'll do it.
He told reporters, who asked about speculation he was considering adviser Stephen Miller to fill Nielsen's DHS Secretary position:
"Stephen is an excellent guy. He's a wonderful person. People don't know him...He's been with me from the beginning. He's a brilliant man. And frankly, there's only one person that's running it. You know who that is? It's me."
He still has the acting DHS head Kevin McAleenan, though, to whom Trump reportedly offered a pardon if McAleenan agrees to break immigration laws.
If he doesn't, chances are he will follow his predecessor out the door.
