Last year MFA called on Hormel to immediately implement meaningful changes for these animals. They suggested installing live-stream cameras to deter abuse and to prohibit the extreme confinement of pigs in gestation and farrowing crates. And, of course, they asked Hormel to end the painful and unnecessary mutilations such as castration and tail docking without pain relief.
I feel certain, because of MFA's efforts, that some companies are moving away from the unconscionable practice of castrating piglets and cutting off their tails without painkillers. However, MFA and other animal-protection groups have found it hard to convince companies like Walmart and Nestle to require their suppliers to end these cruel and torturous mutilations. God bless MFA and the companies who are responding to eliminate this cruelty. It can't come soon enough for future innocent piglets who are still being subjected to this pain and suffering. Please say a prayer with me that it will end. I do believe in the power of prayer. I hope you do as well.
