Democracy versus money. It's a death match that democracy cannot win. Money is invincible; no matter how many times you knock it down, it always gets back up. Wearing a different face, or party, or gender, but always the same color--lucre green. Democracy is behind on points and bleeding all over the ring.

Even if we got over our allergy to professional politicians, they can't stand up when a heavyweight smashes them in the face with a bag of gold. They're not even in the same class; it's like Manny Pacquiao fighting Mike Tyson. They don't belong in the ring together.

In a perfect world, we'd put strict cash limits on each and every elected office. But the Supreme Court says no, the constitution stands in our way.

So how do we save our democracy while preserving the first amendment right of bought speech for emotionally-needy billionaires? We create 51 new political jobs at the very top. The figurehead top. Each State gets a Crown Prince, whose portrait will hang proudly at the Department of Motor Vehicles, and the USA gets a King or Queen.

Meg Whitman can spend all she wants on that one. But heaven help her if Larry Ellison wants the job.
