I think if people are going to get mad about something other than the fact that the oil is still leaking into the ocean, they should get mad that companies were allowed to drill there in the first place. It seems to me that this should be the nail in the coffin of the deep water offshore drilling debate. If this can happen, even if it only happens one out of a billion times, to our oceans and their ecosystems then the risk is not worth the reward. For too long have we remained dependent on fossil fuels while putting off investing real time and energy into developing and cultivating alternative energy sources. Now we have hard and horrible evidence that our priorities need to change.
And if it were up to me, any mouth-breather who chanted "drill baby drill" during the last presidential election should be required to head to the gulf and personally help in the clean-up and containment initiatives.
