The graphics to be on cigarette packs are only of victims---victims of their own behavior, "smoking". Smoking what, exactly, is never said, and no pictures are planned to illustrate and educate about that vital question. The homicidal behavior of cigarette producers, their many suppliers, and their paid-off friends in government, is not to be an issue.
Comments might be about all of that, or related matters. For one, this compulsion on one industry, an unpopular one, of course, sets a precedent regarding compulsory speech and free speech. One may no longer expect that their product packaging can contain whatever art, design, or non-deceptive wording that they choose. Who knows? The word "Organic" might be prohibited because the pesticide-chlorine industries deem it to be an unfair indictment of their contaminated products. It's not hard to imagine what graphics might end up on alcohol products.
Also, the graphic
images are exaggerations of worst-case scenarios, seemingly taken from old
horror comics, not representative of medical realities. To that extent, they are lies. Many will realize that the graphics are
disingenuous and will, of course, all the more distrust and disrespect government regulatory
agencies. Is there a remote chance that people will not go to future Halloween parties dressed as cigarette packs? But that's a good thing.
Agencies that routinely prioritize private business concerns over the vital
needs of human people ought not be trusted or respected...or unchallenged.
