First: Some - I say some - African Americans want to have one leg in Africa and another leg in America. I respect your loyalty to your roots but that is centuries ago. You are American, so you should dress like American, walk like American, talk like American and look like American. I am not saying look like whites, I am saying look like American not African. I know some wonderful intellectual African Americans who were my best university professors, but that is not enough.
Second: for some African Americans I say: be patient, develop skills, read, work hard and never give up. Quick bucks never make a future. They might give short-lived temporary joy but keep the person in a the same vicious cycle. Live with whatever little and be sure with hard work, persistence, you will do better.
