Fires, floods, storms, heat waves, and resource collapses will drive more and more people out of their homes, making for a situation where climate refugees overcome the country from both outside and within its borders. Those who aren't homeless will still have to navigate an economy where unemployment soars, and where it's increasingly hard to pay for food, shelter, education, or healthcare. The expanding austerity and privatization will guarantee this, as well as additional types of crises like blackouts and future pandemics.
We must understand that as the country becomes more of a failed state, the ruling institutions will come to regard more of us as expendable. Outside the smart cities and the rural compounds of the wealthy, communities will increasingly be regarded as sacrifice zones. If the ruling class aims to create this kind of future, one where the lower classes are deprived of our dignity and livelihoods while the military wages war against society's unruly facets, we should accept their challenge for a class war.
Educating people about the need for proletarian revolution by spreading revolutionary literature, building Marxist-Leninist and anti-colonial organizations, and training the socialist movement's members for defending from state violence are our routes towards victory. When our revolutionary confrontation reaches its ultimate point, the one where we overthrow the capitalist state, militancy training will prove to be the most important; without a means to counter the capitalist instruments of violence, we'll be defeated before we can gain the upper hand. People's war is how we'll overthrow the capitalist state and replace it with a proletarian-run democracy that takes care of the people's needs.
In the time between now and the point where this people's war succeeds, we need to engage in the more immediate means for helping the poor and working classes. Mutual aid projects are increasingly how we can help each other survive during these times, because the capitalist state will keep slowly abandoning us. Building institutions that help us attend to each other's needs, spread class consciousness amongst each other, and give us the tools to protect and empower ourselves must be our priorities. If we don't take these actions, we'll remain subject to the whims of a neoliberal power structure which grows more merciless and cruel as the collapse continues.
