Charges of Moral Decadence: The People of America v. The Republican Party

Lesser but still important charges involve such things as ending Pell grants for needy students, the dismantling of states' education systems by Republican governors who are indiscriminately laying off teachers and forcing the cutback of extracurricular activities and programs at our nations schools. Our lives will become much more dangerous if these professional dismantlers are allowed to continue to lay off more and more police and firefighters.

One aspect of the Republicans' agenda that I find almost incomprehensible. They will go to great lengths, sometimes involving violence, to see that no fetus is aborted no matter what the reason. But when many of these children are born into poverty, into dysfunctional families or do not have health care, they look the other way instead of helping them. They then have no concern over their plight, in other words, they have cut the cord. Those lives that they were so obsessed with saving are now left to fend for themselves. How bizarre is this kind of conduct?

After having heard all the arguments supporting the damning charges against the defendants the jury must begin its deliberations and, when the members fully understand the critical importance of the issues, the next step will be to enter the voting booths on November 6 and make their determinations.

So with the people of America acting as the judge, the jury and the prosecutor, you would think that they will find the defendants, the Republican Party, guilty of all charges. You would think that the people cannot do otherwise; that it is their duty to protect this nation and this society from the certain destruction of important social programs by these morally corrupted politicians if they seize control of our government.

That brings up the one great danger that is involved with this case. These same people who will be sitting in judgment of the Republicans have been tricked and deceived by them numerous times in the past. Just look what at happened in the congressional elections of 2010. Leading up to that election the Republicans had been running roughshod over the U.S. Congress, using every trick and deceitful tactic to oppose or block any and all legislation. They also used the filibuster repeatedly to kill legislation in the Senate.

Their primary objective was to do everything they could to bring down and destroy the presidency of President Obama, and they were immensely successful. During this time, the people of this nation could clearly see what they were doing, the dreadful harm they were causing -- and what did the people do? Equipped with all of the evidence and facts of the disgraceful behavior of the Republicans, far too many people did one of two things; many, many were so disgusted by politics that they sat out the election or, even worse, millions of Americans voted for the very same obstructionist politicians.

Republicans can be likened to a demented Robin Hood; they want to steal from the middle class and the poor and give it to the rich. Their entire agenda is intended to advance the interests of Corporate America and the wealthiest of Americans. They care not a wit about the problems of Americans, the lack of jobs, the people's health, the poor, the elderly, struggling students, our educations systems, the homeless or any other segment of America that is in need. These pseudo-politicians are morally deficient; they must be stopped in their tracks and thrown out of office.

Will the people make the same mistakes again? Yes, there is that danger but I believe that the people of America have learned their lesson. After that tragic election in 2010 that gave the Republicans control of the House, they have done nothing positive and substantive, and they are directly responsible for the current ongoing gridlock in the Congress. What America needs in its current state of economic and social crisis are problem solvers, not initiators of more problems.
