When Idle No More was conceived just a few short months ago, the energy and spirit of the movement captured the hearts and minds of many Canadians who were feeling the same sense of helplessness and frustration as their Native brethren.
As the Harper regime continues to ram through enormous Omnibus Bills, muzzling Canadian scientists, dismantling treasured scientific institutions and research centers while attempting to introduce an ominously intrusive and punitive system of spying on the populace through the Internet while at the same time building private for-profit super jails, the alarm bells have been ringing for some time for Canadians who are watching.
Will you stand up beside our First Nations people in support of protecting the lakes and waters of this land? Are you prepared to take up your drum and beat the sound of peaceful resistance to this draconian government's obsequious allegiance to Big Oil? The future of this land and our children's children depend upon our actions now.
Already there are towns and homes being abandoned in Alberta due to the toxic Tar Sands. The Keystone Pipeline will bring more disaster in the all-too-predictable oil leaks and spills of the future. Canada's pristine lakes and waterways are in danger, as is the health of all of us if we allow the government to continue unabated. It's up to all of us now. We must stand beside the First Nations, stand up for Canada, our true North strong and free.
It's time to be brave, Canada! Do you hear the sound of the drums beating? They beat for you, Canada, and they beat for me...they beat for us all and they call you to come and join them....to take up the beat - the heartbeat of a Nation - a Nation of Indigenous and Settler peoples who have joined as one to protect this glorious and free land. Will you join us?
