Now I'd like to offer some detailed images of Divinity that have emerged in different traditions - both theistic and non-theistic. You, as a reader, will, of course, need to use both your own intuition and skepticism to discern whether any of these descriptions speak to your own sense of what is true.

As mentioned, one of the time-tested ways of intuiting the energy of Divinity is to spend time with a being who resides in a higher level of awareness than one's own. In India the person who maintains an unbroken merging of their individual consciousness with the all-embracing consciousness of Divinity is called a "fully realized being." In reality, they have been few and far between. Even so, if it is not possible to be in the presence of a fully enlightened being - imbibing their state - one way to intuit the nature of the Infinite is to contemplate the words left behind by people who have reached - or are in the process of reaching the "mountaintop." We can perceive how the world looks through their eyes.

Let's begin with the 8th century Tibetan master, Padmasambhava, who refers to the infinite Absolute Reality as the "Ground Luminosity" or Clear Light: Luminous fertile emptiness, without center or circumference. He wrote:

"The self-originated Clear Light, which from the very beginning was never born"

The self-originated wisdom has not been created by anyone - how amazing!

It has never experienced birth and has nothing in it that could cause it to die - how amazing!

"Although it exists in everyone, everywhere, it has gone unrecognized - how amazing!

"Even though it is the thing that is most essentially yours, you seek for it elsewhere - how amazing!"

Shou, a Chinese monk, described the highest reality this way:

"If you say that It is small,

It embraces the entire universe.

If you say that It is large,

It penetrates the realm of atoms.

Call It one; It bears all the qualities.
