To make a long story short, I had the opportunity to sail across the Atlantic thanks to Elle Magazine and Dufour (French sailboat maker) as they partnered for a promotional operation. Dufour wanted to start a "Dufour Antilles" charter company in the French Caribbeans. Out of the 12 boats that were chartered across the Atlantic from La Rochelle, France, I was on the only "female" sailboat (29 foot long) with four women so we were given the honors in the monthly Elle Magazine (January, 1979). At the time, there was no GPS. We used a plastic sextant (!). You measure the angle of the sun on the horizon, need the exact time (four seconds error is one mile error) and then use navigation tables to find where you are.
I sailed across the Atlantic again in 1981, this time from Martinique (French Caribbeans) to Port Grimaud on the French Riviera. It was also a four-woman crew on a 54-foot two-mast sailboat. Much more comfortable than the 29-foot boat!
After these two transatlantic, it was time to get a job as I realized I could not be a sailor around the world full time!
JB: That's quite a saga! Before we turn to your current Sanders video, please clarify. You say that this past year, you've been composing music for Sanders documentary videos. Did/do you make the videos as well as the music?
EH: Yes, the videos that are posted on YouTube under my last name. One of them is translated into six languages: French, German, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Mandarin. I only did the French translation.
JB: Okay. Let's turn to your current Sanders video, Are the Clintons Being Played?. In it, you combine fact and conjecture and come up with what many would declare is a far-fetched scenario for how the Democratic nomination will proceed. As you made the film, were you ever afraid of being ridiculed for your approach?
EH: I never thought about being ridiculed for a story that I clearly disclose as a fairy tale. What came as a surprise was the number of views in such a short amount of time and the many compliments in the comments! (I also got crazy comments and I deleted those that were offensive, discriminatory or vulgar...)
JB: No surprise about the crazy comments; there is no shortage of crazies out there these days. When did you post your video and how many views have you gotten so far?
EH: The video was posted on June 15, 2016 at 10 pm. As of July 3, 2016 there are over 80,000 views for the English version. The average is about 6,000 views a day. The French/English bilingual version was posted on June 21, 2016, it has about 900 views so far.
JB: That's a lot of views! Had you ever made a video about your preferred candidate before?
EH: I made several videos about Bernie Sanders' message prior to "Are the Clintons Being Played?"
