When you take the mushroom, (if you are lucky I guess) you experience this symbiosis as it is revealed. Just about everyone I have talked to who has experimented with the mushroom experiences some sense of this, that everything is, not just communicating with everything else, but everything is of one energy or one nature, as if everything that exists is composed of, held by and essentially one with a universal element, which is not like air or water, but it is a kind of ether, a kind of matrix that is in constant motion. It is this motion that animates matter as it both moves and moves through all creation. You might call it a breath, but it is more like a animating matrix, but I also think it is accurate to describe it as a universal element. So that is the source and origin of psyche and soul. It is a kind of binder of all elements, the animating principle and medium of creation. All biologists should be required to take the mushroom!

[1] Having a full-fledged religious experience does not, in my opinion, fit this description of an archetypal experience. Religious experience is the direct experience of the Other. This is not to say that religions don't come with their own archetypes; they are archetypally rich.
