Map of Iran
Yesterday marked the 65th year since the August 19, 1953 CIA led coup in Iran that toppled the legitimately elected government of Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh.
Though it has become more widely known since August 2013 when the US government released documents of its complicity in orchestrating the coup it's probably safe to assume the majority of people in the US are still in the dark over its government's duplicity in perpetrating what John Wight bluntly describes, "was by any measure, an act of international banditry that continues to cry out for just redress," this from Wight's RT article, "1953 Iran coup-a crime authored by London and Washington."
Here's a synopsis of Wight's piece though his article reveals a more thorough rendition of Iran at that time.
The ruse concocted by the CIA; Mossadegh was a Communist. By tying the phony Communist moniker around Mossadegh's neck plus "the bribing of senior Iranian army and police officers, along with journalists, religious clerics, and members of the Iranian parliament who were tasked with whipping up anti-Mossadegh sentiment", the coup was set in motion.
Then "utilizing the momentum of mass demonstrations that were organized with money provided by the CIA, in August 19, 1953 Mossadegh was arrested along with thousands of his supporters."
During this time the Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi sat only as the constitutional monarch of Iran. In on the conspiracy he fled the country during the first days of demonstrations then returned from exile after Mossadegh was arrested "to become Washington's placeman, ruling the country with extreme brutality and corruption, until the Iranian Revolution removed him and his clique from power in 1979".
The crux behind the coup was "Mossadegh carried out his plan of nationalizing and seizing control of Iran's oil reserves from the British, while confiscating the assets of the AIOC", Anglo-Iranian Oil Company.
"Mossadegh justified his actions thusly, 'In our long years of negotiations with foreign countries (over a just distribution of oil revenues) have yielded no results...with the oil revenues, we could meet our entire budget and combat poverty, disease, and backwardness among our people."
"Another important consideration is that by elimination of the power of the British company, we would also eliminate corruption and intrigue, by means of which the internal affairs of our country have been influenced. Once tutelage has ceased, Iran will have achieved its economic and political independence."
Take that in for a minute, "Iran will have achieved economic and political independence". Mossadegh may have said that some 65 years ago but today what is Washington's supreme anathema? Iran rejecting US hegemony and retaining its sovereignty as an independent country.
That's what it's all about. Certainly not the US nonsense of Iran being a sponsor of international terrorism or hasn't abided by the nuclear deal it signed in 2015 with the US, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany, the P5+1 or JCPOA, Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action.
Iran is in full compliance with the deal. It's Trump that has reneged on the deal by withdrawing the US from an international agreement the government signed in 2015. Now he's unilaterally re-imposing economic sanctions, threatening other countries and the companies therein with supplementary sanctions if they continue to do business with Iran and the real big one coming in November issuing US sanctions to prevent Iran from selling any of its oil.
Put simply, "official" Washington needs "enemies" to justify its $trillion dollar a year defense (war) spending. Look at its "enemies" list. Not just Iran but Russia, China, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela. All independent sovereign countries that reject US hegemony even though none pose a threat, imminent or otherwise to the US.
Dreadfully however, the "official" US narrative is all these countries pose a threat to the US. It's regurgitated by its complicit enabling corporate MSM, and the Congress bought and sold by the defense industry underwriting its campaigns. Yet it's all dissembling propaganda sold to the American people.
