The President met with former United States Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush in the Oval Office of the White House for a discussion of enlisting the help of the American people in the recovery and rebuilding effort going forward in Haiti.

United States Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, at a press briefing with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen, said a review of the attack on Fort Hood allegedly by Major Nidal Malik Hasan showed that the Defense Department had been using archaic intelligence methods, mostly from the Cold War era, that focused too much on "external" threats. The Cuban government agreed to permit U.S. medical evacuation flights to enter Cuban airspace, cutting by 90 minutes the trip from Guantanamo Bay to Miami, Fla. Source
