United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was in Russia, where she failed to win specific pledges from Moscow on tougher sanctions against Iran. She hailed progress in other areas such as arms control, however. Source

US Trade Representative Ron Kirk warned any new global trade accord should contain a "solid" deal on the lucrative services sector and accused trading partners of not living up to a promise to tear down barriers in services that would benefit the global economy. "We have said flat out that there will be no deal without a solid result on services which would result in new market opportunities, but we believe that a positive outcome is still achievable," he told a coalition of service industries meeting in Washington. On this page is information on the health reform, press releases, and remarks by the President as well as access to the White House YouTube playlist of videos in Spanish or with captions in Spanish, the new account in Twitter and the blog. This page will be updated every week.

Day265/Oct14th/Wednesday: The President met with his national security team on Afghanistan and Pakistan in the Situation Room of the White House.

The President and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood toured the Fairfax County Parkway Extension project, the largest Recovery Act project in Virginia, then the President delivered remarks on the economic benefits of the Recovery Act. Transcript

The President announced his support for an additional $250 Economic Recovery Payment to seniors, veterans and people with disabilities who are struggling to make ends meet with retirement savings that have not fully recovered from their losses over the first year of the recession and are facing no cost of living increase in payments in 2010 and 2011. The President signed an Executive Order "Increasing Participation of Asian Americans And Pacific Islanders In Federal Programs , restoring the White House Advisory Commission and Interagency Working Group to address issues concerning the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. The President and French President Nicolas Sarkozy communicated by telephone as part of their ongoing consultations on shared U.S.-French strategic priorities. The two presidents discussed strategies to confront the threat of climate change and committed to work together in the lead up to the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in December.
