The United State Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raided alleged elements a Christian militia in Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan that allegedly planned to kill police officers with bombs and the 46 guns reportedly found in the home of one of the group's members. The militia is allegedly Hutaree, a group of radical fundamentalist Christians who believed themselves to be soldiers in a battle against police officers they believed to be forces of the Anti-Christ. Day430/March29th/Monday: The President returned from Afghanistan to Washington, DC and the White House.
The President participated in a credentialing ceremony for foreign ambassadors.
The President received the credentials of China's new Ambassador to the United States, Zhang Yesui. During their meeting, the President stated his determination to further develop a positive relationship with China and reaffirmed the United State's one China policy and support for the efforts made by Beijing and Taipei to reduce friction across the Taiwan Strait. The President also stressed the need for the United States and China to work together and with the international community on critical global issues including nonproliferation and pursuing sustained and balanced global growth. The President released this statement:
"I send my deepest condolences to the people of Russia after the terrible loss of life and injuries resulting from the bombings on the Moscow Metro. The American people stand united with the people of Russia in opposition to violent extremism and heinous terrorist attacks that demonstrate such disregard for human life, and we condemn these outrageous acts. My thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost loved ones, and I wish all who sustained injuries a succesful recovery." Source
The President declared a major disaster existed in the State of West Virginia and ordered Federal aid to supplement State and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms, flooding, mudslides, and landslides beginning on March 12, 2010, and continuing.The President's action made Federal funding available to affected individuals in the counties of Fayette, Greenbrier, Kanawha, Mercer, and Raleigh. Assistance available included grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster. Federal funding was also made available to State and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe storms, flooding, mudslides, and landslides in the counties of Fayette, Mercer, Raleigh, and Summers. Federal funding was also made available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide. Source
