My film review from the Political Film Blog about dark comedy "Young Adult", a new feature film nominated for Golden Globe and Critics' Choice awards. The movie is written by Diablo Cody and directed by Jason Reitman, the team who made the sleeper hit "Juno." Cody, herself previously assigned to adapt a series of Young Adult novels to film, examines what it might do to a woman to spend her adult life mired in the dramas of high school crushes and grudges. Unlike the heroine of "Juno," the protagonist of "Young Adult" (played by Charlize Theron) is no feminist. But that doesn't mean the filmmakers are not. |
