A social democrat winning the nomination or the White House would damage the financial markets, hurt business investment, and slow the underlying American economy, or so the argument goes. The only problem is that there is no reason to think that this is actually true. Wall Street fears the rise of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. The rest of America has less to worry about.
