The Trump administration is doubling-down on President Donald Trump’s Wednesday announcement that the United States government would no longer allow transgender individuals to serve in military. Top national security aide Sebastian Gorka and Energy Secretary Rick Perry both spoke in favor of President Donald Trump’s decision, which has received considerable blowback from both sides of the aisle. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford announced the current policy will remain intact until Trump issues an official directive. Transgender individuals have been able to serve openly in the military since last summer, when the Obama administration announced a change in policy.
