For two years, we’ve been studying the life histories of mass shooters in the United States for a project funded by the National Institute of Justice, the research arm of the U.S. Department of Justice. We’ve built a database dating back to 1966 of every mass shooter who shot and killed four or more people in a public place, and every shooting incident at schools, workplaces, and places of worship since 1999.

In my run for U.S. Senate against Utah's Orrin Hatch, I posted many progressive ideas and principles that I internalized over the years. I'm leaving that site up indefinitely, since it describes what I believe most members of our species truly (more...)

An important study, thanks for posting this link, Dan. One of the statistics I was interested in finding is how many of the perpetrators were female, but I didn't find that info at the link (which indicated that publication of the complete study is forthcoming.)

Somewhat amazing is the inability of the study to link mass shooters to the verbiage of Donald Trump.

crit·i·cal think·ing noun The objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgment.

This leads me to wonder why a person would ask about "inability of the study to link mass shooters to the verbiage of Donald Trump." Given that the article says nothing about this. But my conclusion on that aside, so as to not further detract from the article at hand, I offer this: click here in hopes you may write a piece about your own question.

To further given input for a solid line of evidence, check the long line of books, articles, and so on that have been written about why Homo sapiens look up to authority figures. It stems from our total dependence on adults, whom we usually learn to trust, from birth until about 14 or 15, give or take.

Simple introspection should tell a normal adult that much, at least based on my own reflections from half a century ago and reinforced ever since.

The original article here doesn't really say anything about that, nor do I. The forces are dark and many that got us where we are today, but I do see Trump in the same light that my link in a comment above references. I don't think there can be "proof" in any scientific sense, though I think there could be a terribly high "preponderance of evidence" in front of a jury of peers (assuming there actually are any!) that would view Trump as an acceleratent of our ongoing national tragedy.
