My relatives died in the Holocaust. We face a similar situation in this country. There is an assault on immigrants. Laws for asylum-seekers are dismantled. There is a war on women. There is no respect for the health of our planet and the laws protecting air and water; rules ignored with impunity. The president's Republicans stacked the courts and they disregard our Constitution. The president has torn apart the alliances we have built with countries.

We have lost our moral compass and our generosity. We are viewed as cruel, racist and arrogant. Some hope that the next election will bring change, but with the court stacked against us, there will be no peaceful transition. This is what it must have felt like in Germany as they proclaimed “Germany above all.” This is what it feels like as President Donald Trump acts on the idea of “America first.”

Undocumented immigrants have been a much maligned group for a long time, not just Trump. As I have said before, I am no fan of Trump, but getting rid of him will not solve the problems the US has. e.g. Obama was the deporter in chief.

If the US really wanted to do something about undocumented immigrants it would go after employers. Since they don't it can be assumed that by making undocumented immigrants illegal they are at the mercy of exploitative employers. These employers even put up billboard ads in Mexico advertising jobs.

The root of the "caravan" of immigrants to the US has been US foreign policy. It has supported dictators, who threaten, abuse, torture and murder dissidents; mostly poor and indigenous.

The US has also flooded Latin American, and elsewhere, with highly subsidized grain, thus driving farmers into bankruptcy and off their land. Their choice is then to work in a sweatshop or head north.

Thank you, David. Immigration is just a small part of the quasi-Nazi anxiety this writer fears, as do I.

Dead right David. We see exactly the same system alive and working well in Australia. Quiet a few years back, our Federal Government instituted a privatisation scheme at all costs which bled over to the states as well. They privatised anything that looked like it could make a profit, thus depleting the income for the states and the Federal coffers resulting in a depletion of funding. More of that later.

As a direct consequence the biggest training facilitators in the states, the Government run entities like electricity, water, rail, sewerage ect, were all privatised. However, what they ignored was the fact that all these entities were the biggest training institutions for apprenticeship training in the country. With privatisation, such training ceased. No private corporation was prepared to spend the funds training anyone for four years or more. Within five years, we were in a serious decline of quality trades people, so what did this Government do, they passed a law allowing international trades people into Australia on a visa ro cover the shortage. But many of these imports were unable to speak or even read plans, thus many issues came to light and much substandard work was carried out. On top of that, these Visa workers ignored the wages infrastructure and worked for pennies, thus driving down the wages of every Australian. There are too, criminal Australians who import these people and hold their passports and lodge them in substandard lodgings charging them outrageous rents ensuring these folks can never get them off their backs as they need to repay the costs incurred by these criminal organisations who funded their entry into Australia. Not a week goes by, where such a group is not caught, but to date, not one such group has ever been fined or charged, all they do is repay the money scammed and they're scott free to repeat the process all over again.

Regards the income stream to the Federal coffers from these newly privatised public owned streams. These now are directed into private shareholder's pockets, thus reducing the income the Government gets to operate. The funds need to come from somewhere, so what they do is introduce more taxes to make up the short fall. Dontcha just love how these Governments have the interests of the people at heart at all times ??????????

Hitler's #EnablingAct/W Bush's #AUMF - Hitler with dictatorial powers/W Bush with absolute powers. For America, no rule of law and no accountability for the president - the German Reichstag succumbed to Hitler and the US Congress refused to investigate or impeach (they succumbed) W Bush - yes, #Nuremberg "at the dawn of the 21st Century".
