This is part of a pattern: Standing on the world stage as the face of the United States, Trump has routinely fumbled basic facts about history, foreign policy and economics. Critics argue that he puts his foot in his mouth every time he leaves the country.“The President of the US is breathtakingly ignorant,” tweeted  conservative lawyer George Conway  after the comments about Western liberalism in Osaka, Japan. The president and his allies maintain that he’s consistently underestimated and does not receive credit for his successes. Trump supporters like his unconventional approach, and they take pride in his apparent embrace of the 'madman theory' of foreign policy. Trade is a notable example: Trump has either knowingly made many false statements about tariffs to the American people, or he does not understand the most basic principles of how they work. Either explanation is plausible.'

A dangerous confusion at the heart of Trump's foreign policy - "Publicly, Trump is determined to appear tough. The problem is that the president's policy goals, the outcomes he is trying to achieve, have never been murkier. The confusion extends not only to America's adversaries Iran, North Korea and Venezuela but also its allies in Europe and Asia. Even senior Trump administration officials who populate the Situation Room and are charged with successfully executing the president's policies seem confused about what will satisfy their commander in chief.

The net result is a president who has proved adept at triggering foreign policy crises, which have piled up during his more than two years in office, but who seems unable to defuse them."

and there is this:Trump Destroys American Greatness From Within

or this:

"Just minutes before the speech, with the Normandy Cemetery behind him in the frame of the Fox News interview , President Trump called decorated war veteran Robert Mueller a fool and attacked Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Not even the gravity of this historic moment could thwart President Trump's habit of insulting his fellow Americans or attacking veterans that he personally dislikes - the late Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and Adm. William McRaven being recent examples. These insults are made worse when you factor Trump's Vietnam War draft-dodging into the equation."
