Many true progressives who voted in the election of 2016 held their noses and voted for Clinton or Trump. Their reason was, uniformly, that they will always vote for the perceived lesser of two evils. (Full disclosure: I voted for Stein.)

Given the eternal choice of voting for the lesser of two evils (L2E) or voting for a third party candidate, I believe that we will always end up with a President who serves the interests of the 1%, and as time goes by the tactics used will become more and more  in-your-face.

And given that there are puppetmasters behind both parties who answer to Wall Street and the monopolies that partner with them, we will never get a government of, by, and for the people.

This article, though lengthy, makes a strong case for a truly independent left party with dues-paying members.

Read this well-written article and think deeply about it.

Thanks Jerry, most critical article. Unfortunately, I have called Senator Hatch more times than I can possibly remember, even on this issue several times. He's got his mind made up and I think it's fair to say he votes for absolutely everything I don't stand for. AKA, that which is harmful or adverse to humans and life on Earth. He's the same joker who brought the NSA to Salt Lake a mere 20 minutes from where I live

Hi Daniel,

Orrin Hatch is a horrible Senator. A fine example of why we need to form a truly independent left party. Are you on board with that?

I am looking at running as independent, but can't make my mind (like Mark Twain, mainly because it's so large!). I voted for Jill and did a number of links and I think an article or two on her. Voted for Nader long ago, ditto Kucinich who even then didn't fit the Democratic Party mold.

So, yes, of course, though I have reservations as to whether that's even possible. Happy to talk more, probably best to pm me and I can send my direct email. Dan

Hope Springs Eternal. Would that citizens here would wake up, open their propagandized minds to alternatives outside of our long established two parties. Socialism/Social Democracy and Communism have been demonized here for decades. Having lived in a socialist country, a social democratic country as well as a communist one, I presently believe that capitalism is a cancer...the huge income disparity, the demonizing of the poor, for profit schooling, profit over people, war profiteering and very expensive healthcare that does not necessarily ensure best outcomes.... the Scandinavian social democracies rank the highest on the "happiest countries' list. Guess coming up with "the progressive left or independent left" was the answer to avoiding the word Social or Socialism.

Leslie, an excellent summary of the ills of capitalism! I'm ready for a New Party. IMO nothing short of that is acceptable. I don't know what the name should be. Maybe Lakoff can help with that.

I think there are very many lefties who haven't yet discovered how the right is beating us and know more about what they despise than about what they actually want.
