Editor's Note: Senator Arlen Specter, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, is emerging as a key player in the Senate's belated effort to rein in the White House's unlawful use of domestic surveillance. This past week Specter railed against the Administration's use of unauthorized electronic surveillance against US citizens. Specter said in part; "They want to do just as they please, for as long as they can get away with it, ... I think what is going on now without congressional intervention or judicial intervention is just plain wrong." However Senator Specter has blocked any action from his committee that would confront directly and legally the very actions he decries.
