Everyone in Santa Fe is as sad about this, especially friends like Fred Nathan, Founder of Think New Mexico, Special Assistant to Tom on the 1992 Tobacco suits, and the brains behind the effort to rescind the gross receipts tax on food. I know Tom will land on his feet. When the next FDA commissioner confirmation comes before the Senate, I asked him today to please bring up the evidence behind  rescinding aspartame's FDA approval. That is all I ask of this dedicated public servant in the remaining months. I will never forget talking with Stewart Udall, Tom's father, the night in November 1988, when Tom won the Congress seat for the first time; Stewart told me that he hadn't been as happy about anything in politics since JFK was elected! From 1960 to 1998. Stewart Udall always said so much in few words.
