McConnell announced that he is “not an impartial juror” and will conduct Trump's impeachment trial in “total coordination” with the White House, which  has Murkowski “disturbed,” while Collins said she “hopes” that leaders will negotiate a fair trial process.

Some, like Lindsey Graham, have said they’re with McConnell—not impartial jurors, just here to serve Donald Trump. But there are reports that some Republicans aren’t happy.

Richard Blumenthal says, “I've talked to anywhere from five to 10 of my colleagues who have very severe misgivings about the direction that Mitch McConnell is going in denying a full, fair proceeding with witnesses and documents. My hope is that they will say publicly what Sen. Murkowski did, and really hold Mitch McConnell accountable.”

No credit—none—to these Republicans until the day they come out and actually force McConnell to conduct a fair Senate trial.

Just proving this entire venture to be a complete farce, as Tulsi Gabbard pointed out in her "present" vote. The fact the rotted Democrat party and their corrupt "leader", Hillary still fuming over the fact their corruption didn't place her on the throne in the Oval Office have been hollering for impeachment since November 2016 the day after it was discovered Trump won the election. Not even sworn in and the Hillary mobs were hollering for impeachment and the Russians were handy for them as Hillary and Bill had a fairly good relationship, nearly $200,000,000 worth, with them. After tens of millions of dollars wasted on Russiagate, they then went to the Ukraine phone call which in reality exposed the Bidens for more wrongdoing than Trump.

The main crime in this exercise was placing the bar so low on what might be considered impeachable is damaging to not only future Presidents but to what semblance of a Democracy we still have. This said after we have had Presidents who have lied us into illegal wars killing thousands of our young men and women plus millions of innocent citizens of sovereign nations. We have Presidents who have over-saw torturing of prisoners which is a war crime, and much more serious offenses than a phone call, yet there was no call for impeachment hearings, in fact, the same Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, took those off the table. Of course, she would have been implicated in the torture because she knew it was going on but remained silent making her an accessory to those crimes.

Perhaps, after the American voters draw their own conclusions in 2020, you won't dismiss impeachment as a "total farce." On that you are very much mistaken! More from Senator Blumenthal:

I believe there may have been impeachable issues as Tulsi Gabbard states in the censure of Trum she wrote, but the issue chosen for this was the weakest of them all. It is up to the American people to impeach him at the ballot box, failure at that and shame on us.

FORTUNATELY, the Founders created a faster way to remove a President than the usual way of waiting for the ballots to be counted (or not counted?) and that is impeachment, which is not at all in any sense of the word, the 'complete farce" that you described.

This is what Tulsi had to say about her "present" vote:

Faster way to remove a President? That may be true, however this was a fiasco and will only empower him and his supporters.

Don't take my word on it, just wait and see.

Yes, even if all the Republican Senators had some 'misgivings' about McConnell (the #GrimReaper) letting Trump control his own impeachment trial in the Senate, when it comes to the voting, surely practically all, if not all the Republican Senators will be voting their 'Party Before Country' - "NAY" to "remove Trump from office". Yes, the Democrats would be doing the same for a Democrat president getting impeached by a Republican majority House (e.g.. Bill Clinton impeached by Gingrich but "NAY" to 'remove from office' by the Senate Democrats). Pelosi's 'impeachment strategy' for Trump ("the president is impeached") to 'hold the impeachment articles' in the House appears to be 'spot on' and perhaps continuing with her 'impeachment inquiry' in 2020. There may be at least twenty more "Trump Articles of Impeachment" - "on the table"?

I believe Tulsi's censure proposal cites them. Of course because it makes sens and it comes from Tulsi they will refuse to even look at the proposal. So goes it with politics in the USA today.

Yes, Gabbard voted "PRESENT" for Trump's 'impeachment vote' in the House - this means she is 'NOT' standing up in congress for 'the rule of law' or 'oversight' in my opinion. Almost as if she agrees to be 'present' in congress as Trump 'abused his power' and 'obstructed the congress' from being 'an equal branch of government' - why is she even running for the presidency or in the congress I might ask if she's not willing to take the lead and vote "YEA" when 'the roll is called' for the Democrats?

On your prediction, you may be proven correct; however, I prefer to not prognosticate but rather present the facts as articles elsewhere delineate them.

Oh sure, when it comes to 'politics' we have to 'prognosticate' because 'the facts' are usually ignored whenever 'the politician' is 'running for office' and 'all the promises get made' to 'rake in the votes' - Gabbard seems to be 'a seasoned politician' willing 'to make some promises' but 'not willing to be counted on' when the 'votes are cast'?

I am saying it is fruitless to try to guess the outcome of the impeachment vote. That is what prognosticate means, coming from the Greek, to know in advance. Too many liberal brethren fall for that particular error in logic.
