Shortly after learning about President Donald Trump’s zero tolerance policy regarding migrants crossing the nation’s southern border without documentation, and the separation of children from their parents, Santa Fe sculptor L.C. Shank wanted to make a strong protest statement.
'It's an immigration policy that, to my way of thinking, is inhumane and as an artist, I'd thought I'd make a statement. It's something tangible. As a sculpture it's three dimensional, it's large, so it's a powerful symbol. Plan to start here with a launch party then go to LA across the country to Washington D.C.' Shank says.
Shank says the idea goal of his art is to increase awareness about immigration policies and that his project is a visual plea to open minds and also restore hope.
